THE FIRM

A reputable public accounting firm located near Lake Shore Drive in Michigan, just hours from Chicago, is seeking a seasoned CPA Tax Manager. With over 30 years of experience, the firm specializes in tax, audit, accounting, and financial advisory services for businesses and high net worth individuals.

The firm is very client-focused. They value building lasting relationships, where trust, integrity, and personal-attention go a long way in helping clients achieve their financial goals. Compensation for this position is up to $180,000 to start, with potential ownership in the firm also available. They are open to candidates from the Chicago area willing to relocate, and will consider hybrid work arrangements.

THE ROLE

For this role, they are looking for a Tax Manager and advisor, who will bring their years of experienced leadership and expertise to support our tax and advisory team. This is a hands-on position where you will very much be involved in the work, but you’ll also be guiding and mentoring your team.

You excel at managing multiple clients and projects simultaneously, and always have a sense of the bigger picture. When analyzing and researching issues, you’re thinking through the impact of each decision on the client, but also on the direction of the firm. Your solutions are effective because you discern circumstances with precision and heart.

As a primary client relationship manager, your participation is integral to:

  • Coordination with other professional staff to provide business owners and individuals a comprehensive tax, financial, and insurance plan

  • Review and preparation of corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns

  • Leading, training and mentoring team members

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5-10+ years of recent tax preparation experience in public accounting required

  • 3+ years of recent experience reviewing various types of returns ranging in complexity preferred

  • Experience with tax and estate planning, and an innate desire to serve clients

  • Licensed CPA preferred. CPA candidates actively pursuing licensure will also be considered

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Compensation: $120,000-180,000 per year, paid hourly; commensurate with experience

Benefits and work environment:

  • Direct path to ownership available for those interested and aligned with firm culture and vision

  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match with immediate vesting upon hire

  • Individual health, life, and disability insurance covered 100%

  • HSA eligible insurance plan: $600/year contributed by company

  • Relocation assistance available

  • Dental and vision insurance available

  • Flexible benefits/dependent care

  • 3 weeks paid vacation time per year

  • 40 hours paid sick time per year

  • 8 hours paid personal time per year

  • Overtime paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate during tax season, with option to bank hours to be used for additional paid time off during non-tax season

  • Year-end performance bonus

  • New client bonus incentive: 10% of first year's billings

  • Flexible work schedule

  • Remote work options available for those with successful prior experience working in a remote environment

While the team is local to southwest Michigan, they are open to this position being a hybrid/remote role for candidates who have a successful track record of remote public accounting experience.

They also feel strongly about supporting those in the profession committed to continuing their careers while balancing family responsibilities, and are therefore open to part-time arrangements as well.
